For the first time globally Freelander 2 will be available in a HSE Luxury specification, providing exterior and interior enhancements. Exterior features include body-coloured sills, door handles and mirror caps and bright Atlas-coloured finish to the grille and vents. Exterior design details have been revamped for an integrated and co-ordinated appearance, including more contemporary lights front and rear using the latest LED technology and a new signature graphic in the front running lights. The system closely controls throttle closing, ramps down fuelling and turns off the alternator to ensure the engine stops smoothly. A detailed software strategy combined with the Freelander 2’s optimised engine mounting system ensures an equally smooth re-start. As before, the starter’s mechanical components have been upgraded to ensure durability throughout the life of the vehicle. This includes the use of a heavy duty ring-gear, new dual mass flywheel friction control plate, absorption glass mat battery and uprated starter motor.
The interior include 8/6-way adjustable Windsor leather electric seats and Grand Black lacquer finish to the door pulls, steering wheel and interior finisher. Interior equipment levels soar to new heights in the Freelander 2 with a host of fresh and exciting features including three new colour ways as part of a ‘Dynamic’ theme, brand new centre console, 7-inch colour touch-screen with enhanced audio systems from Meridian, 7-day timed climate system and optional satellite navigation. Interior features on the XS derivative includes Partial Leather with Dinamica seats, featuring electric, 6/4-way adjustment, front and rear armrests and power lumbar support for the driver.
Available, audio system with 11 speakers, Bluetooth phone connection, navigation system, rain sensing windscreen wipers, automatic headlamps, automatic climate control and illuminated vanity mirrors. A voice activation system with visual prompts, and rear view camera capability are also both new to the Freelander 2. Passive start replaces key dock and there’s a new ‘intelligent’ electric parking brake which adjusts brake force according to the slope the vehicle is parked on. The Freelander 2 provides the safest possible environment for occupants. The Command Driving Position provides good visibility of all four corners of the vehicle and narrow A-pillars ensure that forward visibility is not compromised. There are seven airbags: two curtain, two front, two thorax and a driver’s knee bag as standard. The transverse engine mounting not only frees up interior space but offers impressive crash performance.
A new Dynamic Exterior Pack provides the opportunity to add further sporting design features to the Freelander 2. Available as an option on HSE Luxury and XS derivatives, the pack includes a roof spoiler, bright exhaust tailpipe finishers, and gloss black finish to the grille, side vents, and bonnet & tailgate scripts. The introduction of new 19″ gloss black 10-spoke alloy wheels continues the gloss black theme. Inside, a two-tone Dynamic leather seat option is available with electric 6/4-way adjustment, which can be specified with a silver or black matrix finisher. Available in Ebony/Lunar and Almond/Nutmeg colourways, these seats are paired with the premium door trim, used on vehicles with leather interiors, further enhancing the Freelander’s feeling of interior quality.
