Iowa Speedway is a state-of-the-art 7/8 mile asphalt paved tri-oval race track and motorsports facility located in Newton, Iowa, 30 miles east of Des Moines, Iowa.

The track is owned and operated by U.S. Motorsport Corporation and designed by former NASCAR Champion Rusty Wallace, now an anchor and analyst for ABC-TV/ESPN.

Iowa Speedway is designed for year-round use and includes 30,000 permanent grandstand seats.  It was designed as the first track in the world to protect fans and drivers through the use of SAFER barrier technology surrounding the entire perimeter of the track.gy surrounding the entire perimeter of the track.

Rusty Wallace
NASCAR Great, Rusty Wallace, led the design team in this first ever, driver designed racetrack. Rusty did play an integral part of the overall design and layout of Iowa Speedway.

Rusty Wallace’s resume, one of the most accomplished in American Motorsports, includes: 55 NASCAR Winston (NEXTEL) Cup Victories placing him 8th on the all time win list.

36 Career Winston Cup Pole Positions. 1989 NASCAR Winston Cup Championship Winner. 1989 The Winston All Star Race Winner 1998 “Pole” Shootout 1984 Winston Cup Rookie of the Year 1988 and 1993 NMPA Driver of the Year Winner Voted one of NASCAR’s 50 Greatest Drivers Winner, 1996 NASCAR Thunder 100 in Japan Career Earnings of over $43 million.

Paxton Waters, AIA, is President of Paxton Waters Architecture, an Indiana design firm whose main focus is on Motorsport Facility design.

A native of Omaha, NE Paxton has 30 years of experience as an architect and is registered in 19 states. 

Paxton’s first involvement with motorsports was in 1990 with the design of various buildings at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, including their 60,000 square foot headquarters.

In 1994, Paxton was the lead designer for the California Speedway, shortly followed by the Las Vegas Motor Speedway and Pikes Peak International Raceway near Colorado Springs. Recent facilities designed by Paxton are, US 131 Speedway and Mansfield Motor Speedway. 

Paxton has consulted on more than 50 feasibility studies from New York to California and is currently in design on a multi venue facility in Central California. American Consulting

Robert E. Creviston, AIA, Project Manager 

American Consulting is a multidisciplinary consulting firm providing the architectural, structural, and civil engineering expertise needed for the development of entertainment venues throughout the country.

American Consulting is currently working with Paxton Waters on a number of racing facilities. 

Andy Gerdom acts as Principle-in-Charge of projects at American Consulting and has a number of years of experience in the development of racing facilities throughout the country with Mr. Waters.

In addition, he has developed and continues to develop a wide variety of large scale entertainment projects ranging from dirt ovals to high-speed raceways. Mr. Gerdom has helped provide the technical expertise needed to achieve great racing projects. 

Rob Creviston is an experienced architect with vast experience as a Project Manager on a variety of large-scale projects across the country.

He has supervised the development of many large-scale projects and is responsible for everything from the development of schematic design through the final construction inspection on projects at American Consulting. Neumann Brothers
Neumann Brothers, Inc. has been building and restoring some of Iowa’s finest landmarks since 1912.

What began as a family run business founded on the principles of personal commitment, pride, and integrity has became a landmark itself in Des Moines’ history and its future. Currently a mixture of third generation and non-family members, this premier builder still adheres to the lasting principles on which the company was founded to be a part of many of Iowa’s cornerstone projects.

The projects they have built over the 90+ years range from Iowa’s first skyscraper, the Equitable Building, the state’s first Virtual Reality Academic Center featuring C-6 technology at Iowa State University, the first 180° domed IMAX Theater at the new Science Center of Iowa, and now, the first multiplex state-of-the-art racetrack complex in central Iowa.

The award-winning firm provides an array of services including general construction, construction management, design-build, and heavy equipment setting & rigging. Other projects of distinction include Grinnell College Residence Halls, Employers Mutual Casualty, Meredith Corporate Expansion, Des Moines University Student Education Center, and over 20 phases of restoration at the Iowa State Capitol including the gold plating of the dome.
